Low-carbon EDM wires
Sustainability starts hereLow carbon. BIG IMPACT.
Climate change is one of the greatest challenges of our time
It is no longer a distant concern but a reality that affects every industry, every company and every individual. Tackling it requires more than commitments, it requires action, innovation and collaboration.
At Thermocompact, we believe that progress is built step by step and that every decision counts. Reducing carbon emissions is not the effort of one company alone but a shared journey we all must take together. By uniting our strengths, we can reshape our industry and create a future where performance and sustainability go hand in hand.
This is why we have developed and certified a new generation of low-carbon EDM wires. Designed to deliver the same performance, precision and quality than the regular wires, they also enable our customers and partners to reduce their carbon footprint without compromise. By choosing low-carbon ThermocompactEDM wires, you are not only investing in high-performance machining, you are actively contributing to a more sustainable world.
Carbon emissions reduced by up to 70%
The Thermocompact low-carbon range of EDM wires made in France has achieved its low carbon credentials through a supply strategy prioritizing refined metals with low carbon intensity, the use of decarbonized electricity and local secondary supplies.
Thanks to these combined actions, Thermocompact is able to offer low-carbon EDM wires with a carbon footprint reduced by approx. 50% on average compared to the Thermocompactstandard wires and by up to approx. 70% on average compared to equivalent Asian supplies.

1 Coated brass 63/37 EDM wires made in Vietnam out of primary copper cathodes containing 70% of mining raw material and 30% of scrap and Zinc primary cathodes, both refined in China. Carbon emissions from casting and drawing estimated by extrapolating locally collected process data, adjusted using regional emission factors to reflect the local energy mix.
Level of uncertainty associated with the Life Cycle Inventory : 44 %

Life cycle assessment (LCA) in accordance with the most stringent standards
To evaluate its environmental performance and contribution to sustainable development and to assess the carbon footprint of its specific low carbon wires, Thermocompact carried out a Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) in compliance with ISO 14067 standard : quantification and reporting of the carbon footprint of a product, in a manner consistent with International Standards on Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) (ISO 14040 and ISO 14044).
This study allows to quantify the carbon intensity of final products and to track the improvement progress and identifying opportunities for further improving the environmental performance.
AFNOR Certification, a third-party standardization organization, has conducted carbon footprint verification and attested that the Thermocompact calculation methodology and the carbon footprint value for low carbon EDM wires are in accordance with the requirements of the ISO 14067:2018 standard. The LCA has been verified by AFNOR in accordance with the ISO 14064-3:2019 standard, under the CERTI-I-2487 verification program of AFNOR Certification.
This verification reinforces our ongoing commitment to sustainability and transparency.
